Crypto search interest hits 2024 lows despite 'bull market' calls

The crypto market capitalization has expanded notably in the past couple of weeks, with its valuation reaching $2.93 trillion. This move has since brought the attention of investors back, who are now more than ever anticipating a possible crypto bull run.

Calls for a major bull run are understandable, especially as crypto market capitalization gained roughly $372 billion in the past 19 days, according to data on TradingView. Yet, the present level remains far off from the all-time high, which peaked at $4.27 trillion.

Google Trends raises questions about the rally

The early optimism is undeniable, but data shows there’s a divergence between capital flow into the crypto market and the search interest for crypto.

The Google Trends Analysis from Alphractal, which measures investors’ interest in an asset by tracking search interest for multiple cryptocurrencies across social media platforms, shows there’s been a steady decline.

In fact, the search interest has now fallen to its lowest level since 2024, suggesting low activity across the market.

Usually, during a bull market run, it’s common to see the price of these assets align with interest, as high search interest implies investors are rotating capital into the crypto market.

In a situation like this, it often implies that retail investors are not paying attention to the crypto market, which could ultimately limit the capital flow needed to push the asset higher in the near term.

Capital flows point to growing bullish sentiment

There are early signs that show investors in the market are still bullish on crypto assets. The Altcoin Season Index, which measures market conditions, suggests that the market is close to an altseason.

Altseason is a period where altcoins (cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin) continue to surge significantly higher while Bitcoin sees minimal gains within that period.

As it stands, the index has a reading of 72, while it continues to surge forward, hinting at a strong bullish stance.

Likewise, the Fear and Greed Index shows that investors are aggressive about their bullish positioning on certain altcoins. At press time, data shows investors are in the Greed stage.

However, should the market enter the Extreme Greed phase, it would mean that the upside may remain limited, with prices surging forward before seeing a downturn in the near term.

Stablecoin flows remain key to the market outlook

A key level of importance to track is the stablecoin flow in the market, which acts as dry powder for the market.

At the time of writing, the stablecoin market capitalization supply has reached roughly $307.79 billion. Roughly $604.82 million of the flow came in the past seven days, according to data from DeFiLlama.

Stablecoin supply surging often hints that investors may be preparing to rotate capital into the market yet again, a sign that the bulls are lurking.

Notably, while there’s a divergence between Google Trends and the crypto market capitalization flow, it doesn’t rule out that the market isn’t bullish yet, as this could mean the market is in the early bull stage.

Final Summary

  • Crypto market capitalization has surged by $372 billion in 19 days, but Google search interest remains weak.
  • Rising Stablecoin supply and an Altcoin Season Index of 72 suggest investors remain positioned for further gains.
