Derive [DRV] went up by 15% to about $0.50 on October 9, extending a rally that began shortly after the launch of Derive V3.
The upgrade brings fresh attention to the onchain trading platform. But DRV must break above the $0.52 price area before buyers can claim another position to go higher.
Derive V3 moves closer to Ethereum
Derive announced that V3 was live on October 7, and this replaced the previous blockchain that the exchange had with a rebuilt trading system.
What this means is that Derive still processes orders quickly, but Ethereum now plays a larger role in checking transaction records and holding user funds. The platform says that with this arrangement, there is fast trading that is combined with the security of Ethereum.
V3 also simplifies deposits and allows users to borrow assets, including ETH, WBTC, and HYPE, alongside USDC.
Some traders may also need less collateral when they hold positions that reduce each other’s risk. Meanwhile, developers can create investment vaults without writing their own code.
All these developments have increased market interest, with CoinGecko data showing its 24-hour trading volume rising more than 6x to about $112 million.
DRV faces its first major price test
DRV traded near the $0.503 price area at the time of this writing, having reached a daily high of $0.523.
With the rise it saw, the first barrier is now between the $0.52 and $0.53 price areas. If it is able to sustain the move above this range, it could allow buyers to extend the rally.
Overall, its trend remains positive, trading above its key average prices, including the 20-day average near the $0.39 price area. This means that the recent advance has not yet broken down.

However, one of the risks of the rally is that buying strength weakened during the earlier period of sideways trading, but it has started to recover.
If DRV isn’t able to clear the $0.52 price zone, it could go back toward the $0.44 price zone. The stronger safety area sits near the $0.39 price area, where buyers previously came back.
The brief spike toward $0.70 should not be seen as an immediate target because the price did not remain there when it reached that level.
Final Summary
- DRV gained 15% as investors responded to increased activity surrounding the Derive V3 launch.
- A break above $0.52 could support further gains, but $0.44 is the first level that buyers must defend.
