BTC, ETH news: U.S. government moves $288 million in seized bitcoin, ether to Coinbase Prime

The U.S. government just staged its seized crypto for an exchange, and it took an extra hop to get there.

Wallets tied to the government moved about $288 million in seized bitcoin and ether onto Coinbase Prime over roughly half a day on Monday, blockchain data from Arkham shows. The ether went direct, while the bitcoin took a detour through intermediary wallets first.

The movements are despite an executive order in March 2025 by President Donald Trump, which designated seized bitcoin for the country’s Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and said it should not be sold.

A government wallet tied to Ryan Farace, the “xanaxman” case, sent 2,875 BTC worth roughly $178 million to a new address, which forwarded the full amount to a Coinbase Prime deposit wallet minutes later.

A second wallet linked to defunct exchange BTC-e sent 925.512 BTC worth $57 million through the same pattern, in from the seizure address, straight out to Coinbase Prime. Both intermediary wallets were emptied out.

The ether skipped the middle step. A wallet connected to Brian Krewson, the Oracle employee named in a $54 million laundering scheme, sent 30,007 ETH worth $53.09 million directly to a Coinbase Prime deposit address.

Trump urges CLARITY Act passage in honor of ‘big supporter’ Lindsey Graham

Trump urges CLARITY Act passage in honor of 'big supporter' Lindsey Graham

President Donald Trump has pressed the Senate to advance the crypto market structure bill, the CLARITY Act.  For him, the passage should be ‘in honor’ of the late South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he said was a big supporter of the bill.

The president warned that the Senate should act fast to avoid letting China win on crypto and AI.

A similar urgency was echoed by White House crypto advisor Patrick Witt, adding that,

Critical week for Clarity, which also happens to be the one-year anniversary of GENIUS. We cannot afford to delay any longer.

The U.S. Senate officially reconvened on Monday, 13th of July, after the Independence Day break. It will go for another recess on the 8th of August. Hence, the only window for the bill’s passage is before the August recess, meaning less than three weeks.

Yet, a Senate floor vote has not been scheduled. Besides, if it passes the Senate floor vote, it must also be approved by the House before it reaches President Trump’s desk for signing into law.

On a positive note, the bill has won the support of another major enforcement group, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Associations (FLEOA). With recent backing by sheriffs, the bill has cleared a key hurdle initially posed by these groups.

But banks and Democrats’ opposition remained.

Sen. Warren calls for CLARITY Act ethics provisions

In a letter on Monday, the American Bankers Association urged the Senate to strengthen stablecoin yield provisions. The bank lobby group decried ‘ambiguities’ in the bill that could deepen capital flight.

We remain concerned that ambiguities within the bill could encourage stablecoin arrangements to effectively function as substitutes for deposits, despite Congress’s longstanding and clearly stated intent that payment stablecoins should serve as transaction tools rather than store-of-value products.

Worth pointing out that a deal had been reached on the stablecoin yield. In fact, Witt reinforced the same and slammed the group.

Asked and answered. Give it a rest

For her part, Sen. Elizabeth Warren slammed the bill as a ‘sanctions evasion’ ticket last week. This week, she renewed calls for an ethics provision in the bill, citing Trump’s $1.4B crypto windfall in 2025.

To get the 60-vote threshold to pass the bill, Republicans previously needed only seven extra votes. Now, with Sen. Graham gone and Mitch McConnell (R-KY) hospitalized, Trump will need 9-10 Democrats to pass the bill. And the ethics provision could make or break the outcome.

In fact, the market is so pessimistic about the bill’s passage that odds have dropped to an annual low of 38%.

Final Summary

  • Trump has turned the CLARITY Act into a race with China, urging the Senate to pass it.
  • A renewed ethics provision call could stall the bill if the Democratic Party withdraws support.

Live updates: Bitcoin holds $62,600 as the Iran conflict reignites and CPI looms

BTC, ETH, SOL price news: Bitcoin holds near $64,000 amid US-Iran ceasefire talks

Bitcoin traded near $62,600 on Tuesday, down 0.3% over 24 hours and roughly flat on the week, per CoinDesk data. The market is steady on the surface but the macro backdrop underneath it has turned.

President Trump reinstated the U.S. blockade of Iranian ships through the Strait of Hormuz and demanded a 20% fee on all other cargo moving through the waterway, reviving a conflict that a June peace deal had appeared to settle.

Brent crude rose as much as 2.8% to about $85 a barrel, its second day of gains, and traders lifted bets on a Fed rate hike.

That combination runs directly against crypto. Oil pushing higher feeds the inflation pressure that kept the Fed hawkish through June, and the easing of that pressure was much of what let bitcoin recover from its late-June lows near $58,000. The peace trade is now unwinding, and rate-hike odds are climbing back.

Bitcoin has spent a month between roughly $59,000 and $66,000, and the majors are mixed. Ether held near $1,783 and is up on the week, while Solana, XRP and Hyperliquid are all down 5% or more over seven days.

Today’s June inflation print is the more immediate test. A soft number would ease the rate-hike pressure the Iran news just revived. A hot one, especially with oil climbing, would stack a second hawkish signal onto the first, two weeks before the Fed meets July 28 and 29.

Wix CEO Runs an AI Coding Giant but Says AI Gets 'Too Much Credit'

Even the CEO behind a buzzy AI coding platform says Silicon Valley is overselling AI.

On an episode of the “20VC” podcast released on Monday, Avishai Abrahami, the CEO of Wix, a web design company that acquired the vibe-coding platform Base44, addressed one of the industry’s biggest debates: AI’s ability to replace traditional software and human employees.

“I would love to say the team in three years, we will be a thousand people in Base44 and a thousand people in Wix, and everything else would be AI agents. I’m not so sure it is possible,”Abrahami said. “I think that we all give too much credit for AI and what it can do.”

He added that AI is not doing well “for a lot of the things” at detailed levels.

The CEO said that vibe coding, for example, was far from a perfect solution. Wix bought Base44 for $80 million last year, and Abrahami said it has invested $200 million into the platform.

“You try to build anything very complicated, it’s hard when you’re trying to do visual editing. It’s really annoying,” he said. “You’re not going to vibe code Shopify no matter how good you are.”

In another example, Abrahami said the company tried several times to buy AI customer support systems but had to build its own after being disappointed with the off-the-shelf options. He also said that he is not prioritizing swapping human customer support with AI.

“I would not be that concerned with LLM replacing every kind of white-collar jobs,” he said. “It’s not that smart. It keeps making silly mistakes. It’s not very good.”

Abrahami’s comments follow a rough year for Wix. Its shares have fallen almost 50% as investors question whether AI-powered website builders will erode its core business.

Wix is in a unique position compared to other software providers: While its stock is being punished by industry-wide “SaaSpocalypse” fears, it has reported double-digit revenue growth from Base44.
