Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) could be entering a new phase of artificial intelligence monetization. JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth highlighted the opportunity on September 10, arguing that the social networking company is moving beyond AI experimentation and toward meaningful commercialization.

AI Monetization Push
Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) is already using AI to make its existing advertising ecosystem more valuable. Its algorithms help determine which users are most likely to engage with particular advertisements, match ads with relevant audiences, and generate advertising content, including images, videos, and text. AI is also being used to improve conversion rates and attribution.
The company said earlier this year that improvements to AI-powered ad ranking increased Facebook ad clicks by 3.5% and Instagram conversions by 1%. It is also expanding AI tools that allow advertisers to modify images, videos, backgrounds, and voiceovers when creating advertising content.
The monetization opportunity is becoming increasingly significant as the combined revenue run rate associated with its video-generation advertising tools reached $10 billion at the end of last year. That suggests AI-generated creative is already becoming meaningful within Meta’s existing advertising revenue base and could help deepen monetization rather than simply create an entirely separate revenue stream. Products including Muse and Meta’s model API are also potential new monetization channels through subscriptions, commissions, and other AI-driven services.
Therefore, Meta remains focused on monetization across advertising and the broader business ecosystem. If this trend continues, it could generate additional high-margin revenue while strengthening the economics of its core advertising platform.
Against this backdrop, the JPMorgan analyst upgraded Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) to Overweight and raised his price target to $820. The analyst insists the stock presents an attractive risk-reward proposition given the growth prospects and AI opportunity.
Underlying Risks to Watch
Despite the increasingly bullish narrative, the tech giant faces substantial risks as it ramps up spending.
Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) expects capital expenditures of $130 billion to $145 billion in 2026, up from $72.2 billion last year. A sharp increase could place significant pressure on free cash flow, particularly if AI monetization takes longer than expected to offset the additional costs.
There is also a longer-term risk that capable AI assistants could disrupt the core advertising model. Consumers may eventually rely on third-party agents to discover and purchase items, rattling the company’s advertising business.
