Kate O’Flynn is the first winner of the night at the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, which are being handed out Monday night in Los Angeles.
O’Flynn won for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Widow’s Bay. Jean Smart also won her fifth consecutive Emmy for Hacks and her eighth Emmy overall. Allison Janney also won her eighth Emmy overall, this time for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Diplomat.
Matthew Ryhs won for Outstanding Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for the miniseries The Beast in Me. He is also in the running for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay.
The 78th Annual Primetime Emmys are airing live from the Peacock Theater and will stream on NBCUniversal’s Peacock platform beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Mariska Hargitay, a previous Emmy winner for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, is hosting this year’s ceremonies, which come a little more than a week after she won two statuettes at the Creative Arts Emmys for her documentary My Mom Jayne.
Hargitay opened the show with skit-turned-stage performance singing “I Love TV Screens,” set to the tune of the Joan Jett hit “I Love Rock and Roll.” Haritay noted that she is the first woman in 15 years to host the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony.

The nominees for the 2026 Emmy Awards were announced on July 8, and the first statuettes were handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Sept. 5 and 6 at the Peacock Theater in LA. The HBO Max medical drama The Pitt earned the most nominations with 25, and the series goes into Monday night’s ceremony with four wins at the Creative Arts Emmys.
HBO Max’s comedy series Hacks earned the second-most nominations with 25 and earned one trophy at the Creative Arts ceremony, while Apple TV’s mystery comedy Widow’s Bay was the third-most nominated series with 19 nods. Widow’s Bay goes into Monday night’s ceremony with a leading eight wins at the Creative Arts Emmys.
Prior to the 2026 Emmys, NBC, Peacock and other outlets will be streamed live from the red carpet with interviews and commentary on this year’s fashions. The ceremony also has a star-studded lineup of presenters, along with a pair of anniversary celebrations of classic shows and tributes to late TV talent with the show’s annual In Memoriam segment.
